“Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away.” – Hebrews 2:1
There is a truth we can hold on to which isn’t necessarily part of us, we know it is the truth and we believe it is the truth but it is still not part of our inner most being so when life throws its worst at us, we relent and forget about that truth. Why, because the truth (the word of God in that area) has not yet become flesh in us.
The scripture we read said we MUST (like a command) give the MORE (above all else) earnest heed to the THINGS we have HEARD (specifically talking about the word of God we have heard), lest we drift away.
Friends, it is so easy to drift away from the things of God if we are not intentional in doing all that is required of us to stay rooted and grounded in Him. I’m sure you know someone who loved the Lord and now they are not too keen about the things of the Spirit. The word of God that we have heard must not be IGNORED, we live in an information era where a lot of information is contending for our attention, reaction and action but above all these things, we must also give MORE attention and consideration to God’s word otherwise we run the risk of drifting away.
Interestingly, when a ship drifts away from the shores, it does so gradually, sometimes we might not know we have drifted until we get to the middle of the sea and then ALAS, we have gone far from God.
Are you drifting away? with God, you can never be too far away, call upon Him today for help and get back to the place of reading, studying and meditating on His word and give the more earnest heed to His word daily.
