Then King Nebuchadnezzar was astonished; and he rose in haste and spoke, saying to his counselors, “Did we not cast three men bound into the midst of the fire?” They answered and said to the king, “True, O king.” “Look!” he answered, “I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.” – Daniel 3:24-25
The punishment was gross, it was death by casting the offenders into the burning fiery furnace. The offense? Anyone who refuses to fall down and worship the image set up by the King Nebuchadnezzar. No one disobeys the King and goes free but the law of the highest King was clear about worship in the ten commandment.
“you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me” – Exodus 20:5
The king’s punishment was fire but the punishment of the King of kings was more than that, it was death that transcends the third and even fourth generation. These young men understood what was at stake, there were only two options; 1. don’t bow now and die alone or 2. bow now and the next four generations dies. So it was not a tough decision for them to make at all.
The boys were eventually thrown into the fire for their disobedience to King Nebuchadnezzar and the King was curious about what will happen to them. The bible said he asked his counsellors “Did we not cast three men bound into the midst of the fire?” take note that these men were “bound” in every way in an attempt to ensure that they could not help themselves.
Then these men were bound in their coats, their trousers, their turbans, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. – Daniel 3:21
The LORD was silent all through the accusations, all through the trials, until they got into the fire, when you are in the fire your fate is sealed. Have you every wondered where God is when you are in the midst of your own fire? These young men had confidence in the God of their fathers and the wonder working God did not fail them. Sometimes you will never know that the LORD is with you until you are in the fire. He knows you can go through the accusations alone, and handle the trials all by yourself but when it comes to the fire, helpless!
Too many distractions can make you lose His presence even when He is present. So He reassures you in the fire because no one goes into the fire with you, at that point you realise that He has always been there with you all the while. And He doesn’t just come into the fire to comfort you but also to deliver you. Even if He does not deliver you, DO NOT BOW, He does not deliver those who bow.
Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.” – Deuteronomy 31:6
You might not see Him through the trials and tribulations but be rest assured that He is with you even until the end of age. His silence does not equate to His presence.
God bless you.
