Is There A Right Time To Pray?

Never stop praying. – 1 Thessalonians 5:17 (NLT)

When the Bible says “pray without ceasing” or “never stop praying”, it suggests that God is always ready and willing to hear and answer prayers anytime we call on Him.

The question whether or not God answers prayer is not a valid one as we read from scriptures that God answers prayer and desires that we come to Him with our requests.

Psalms 65:2 (NKJV)
O You who hear prayer,
To You all flesh will come.

Because we believe that God hears our prayers, we have every confidence and assurance to approach Him.

God expects us to pray all the time so it doesn’t really matter when you call, He will answer you if you call on Him in truth and according to His will. Two things to note here:

1. Calling on Him in truth
2. According to His will

Let’s take a look at “according to His will” first, one would think that since we pray according to God’s will, He is obliged to answer us. No, not necessarily, only when we call on Him in truth, with a genuine heart and desire:

Psalms 145:18 (NKJV)
The Lord is near to all who call upon Him,
To all who call upon Him in truth.

For example, if you pray that the Lord should save your loved ones, your desire for their salvation is equally important.

While you and I might have preferred times to pray, God doesn’t. He expects us to come to Him at all times. He is not too busy in the morning so you have to try later in the day. He is not less busy at night so you can have a prayer vigil.

Recently, I felt a strong urge to pray and didn’t know what to pray about. I decided to have a prayer vigil that night when everyone was asleep. The very moment I put my eldest daughter to bed and prayed for her just after 8pm, I felt the Lord said to me, “you don’t have to wait till 12am to come to Me, you can come now”.

I had an awesome time in prayer that night and the burden which I carried for weeks was off my neck.

Psalms 55:17 (NKJV)
Evening and morning and at noon
I will pray, and cry aloud,
And He shall hear my voice.

David shows us here that it doesn’t really matter when you pray, God is always there to hear us; morning, noon and evening.

So, is there a right time to pray to God? For us yes, but for the Almighty God, No. Call upon Him anytime, any day, He will answer you and show you great and mighty things you do not know. God bless you.
