What Are You Holding On To?

“And as He walked by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” They immediately left their nets and followed Him.” – Mark 1:16-18

One day our Lord Jesus saw two brothers doing what they did best; fishing, He interrupted their work and asked them to follow Him so that He could make them fishers of men. Without any arguments or excuses, they immediately left their nets and followed Him. They had no idea where He was taking them or how long the journey of the next phase of their lives will be but they obeyed Him all the same withholding nothing. We don’t always know where He will take us but we must trust Him to take us to where He has destined for us.

When the bible says that “they immediately left their nets” what we can learn from this is that they left all and did not consider how or where their next meal will come from. Their nets were the means or tools by which they maintained their livelihood and fed their families. They could have kept their nets and still followed Him but in order to follow Jesus we must forsake all that we know to do best.

“And I will make you become fishers of men”, this is the key part of our Lord’s request to the brothers. His plans for them was clear. You must understand that if the Lord calls you to Himself, it is because He has a better plan for you. If the Lord had said to them follow me and I will make you thieves, I don’t believe that they would have left their nets and followed Him immediately.

When we don’t have an understanding of the plans of God for our lives, we are likely to hold on to what we know and comfortable with. The things that we hold on to are things we don’t even have control over, why not trust the One who owns all things and knows all things. God has better plans for you and I, sometimes until we obey Him we cannot get His best.

So what are you holding on to? Trust God! What God has for us is much better than what we currently have and where He’s taking us is far greater than where we are right now. His ways are not our ways, His plans for you is better than any plans you can ever have for yourself. Follow Him, let go of your best and you will never regret it.

What God has for us is much better than what we currently have and where He’s taking us is far greater than where we are right now.

PRAYER
Lord, please help me to trust You, forsake all and follow You. Amen

God bless you
